Potatoes were only 1.4 percent higher than June 2025. But lettuce and tomatoes were much higher. Farm-level vegetables were 59.2 percent higher than a year before.

The comparison is narrow. A kitchen counter jar is not a chinampa. A modern family is not feeding Tenochtitlan.

But the household pattern rhymes.

When fresh food is fragile, distance is risk. The farther the food must travel, the more chances it has to spoil, stall, or cost more. Chinampas reduced that distance. They moved useful food production right beside daily life.
