CPSC says the canisters can deteriorate, rupture, or fail to discharge during a fire. Owners are told to stop using the recalled units and contact Prepared Hero for the remedy.
The recall also matters because disposal is not ordinary. CPSC says the recalled canisters should not be placed in household trash or conventional recycling because they contain pressurized hazardous material; owners should follow the recall’s disposal guidance.

Picture a young worker on the ninth floor on March 25, 1911.
Smoke reaches the room. She turns toward the door. The fire is one danger. The locked route is another. A fire escape is outside, but it will not hold.
In that moment, safety is not one tool. It is every path that still works.
On March 25, 1911, fire broke out at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory in New York City.
The factory occupied upper floors of the Asch Building. Workers faced smoke, flames, height, and too few usable escape paths.
Historical records show that one stairway door was locked and the building’s fire escape failed during the disaster. Fire department ladders could not reach the upper floors.
One hundred forty-six workers died.
The fire became a turning point because it showed how multiple small failures can combine into one deadly system failure.
The flame was the first danger.
A locked route removed another option. A failed fire escape removed another. Height limited outside rescue.
The lesson was not simply “buy a better fire bucket.”
It was that fire safety needs layers: alarms, usable exits, working equipment, inspections, and a practiced response.
After the fire, New York strengthened workplace fire and building-safety rules.

Parallel 2: Rome’s Vigiles
Now walk a narrow Roman street after dark.
A night watchman smells smoke before he sees flame. He calls the other vigiles. One brings a bucket. Another carries a hook. Someone clears the lane. Each person has a different part of the same job.
The city’s answer was a chain of actions, not one magic object.
Ancient Rome faced a constant fire problem.
Dense neighborhoods combined cooking fires, lamps, workshops, wooden upper stories, and narrow streets. A small fire could become a block-wide problem quickly.
Under Augustus, Rome developed a public night-watch and firefighting force known as the vigiles.
The vigiles patrolled at night and responded to fires with people and equipment rather than relying on one object.
Historical descriptions associate their work with buckets, pumps, hooks, axes, blankets, and other firefighting tools.
The important part is the system.
A bucket needs water. A pump needs people. A warning needs someone close enough to hear it. A route needs to stay open.
Rome still suffered major fires. The vigiles did not make the city fireproof.
They represented a layered response: watch, warn, move, fight, and keep order.
That is the household parallel.
An alarm must sound. Someone must hear it. The exit must be clear. A fire tool must be usable. The household must know when to leave and call for help.
The tool is one layer. The system around it is the real backup.
One person with one bucket could lose the race. A watch, a warning, a clear street, and several tools gave the next person another move. The same idea belongs in a home: detect the fire, reach a working tool, keep the exit open, and know when to leave.
