    Off-Grid Outdoor Kitchen Tour (Video)

    If you’re an aspiring homesteader, this will be better than anything on HGTV to you. This amazing outdoor kitchen is any homesteader’s dream summer kitchen and I was super excited to see this video appear on one of my favorite homesteading YouTube channels.

    Summer kitchens are so essential to the homestead. Cooking can get incredibly hot as the weather gets warm, and having the option to cook outside can greatly reduce the temperature of your home, helping to keep it as a cool haven from the oppressive summer heat.

    Also, as you begin to harvest both from your garden and your flocks or herds, it is great to have all the space to process lots of produce or butcher animals. I have major homesteading envy watching the tour of this awesome kitchen!

    Today is the first day of spring! Hopefully, you’ve got lots of warm weather and sunlight in your area so you can get your spring garden started.

    Spring equinox is a great day to start planting, because there’s only going to be more daylight from this day forward.

    But what is an equinox, exactly? I thought it would be cool to learn a little bit about what makes an equinox and equinox, and where it lies in the seasonal rhythms of our planet.

    Understanding both the cycles of light and seasons on earth as well as the way planetary changes can influence us is always great for homesteaders to be aware of! After all, our seasons and growing patterns have been dictated by the skies for centuries.

    I came across this great infographic on Pinterest today for what needs to be done in the garden during each month. Given we have Fall and Winter well on the way I thought it was perfect for this time of  year. Not only for what to do in the garden as the seasons are changing but also because winter is a great time to start planning next year’s garden.

    As the weather gets cool and you harvest your summer crops, it’s the perfect time to think about next year’s garden. Garden journals are great for this: you can write down everything you want to repeat or change next year. But whether you want to start a garden journal or simply start thinking about next year’s garden, this infographic, from Spalding Plant and Bulb Co., is very handy.
